Upcoming Anime of Winter 2025

Top 10 Best Upcoming Anime of Winter 2025 – As we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome the winter season of 2025, here are the top 10 best upcoming winter anime of 2025. I know it’s still early, but let’s take a peek at what’s in store.

10. The Red Ranger Becomes an Adventurer in Another World

Once a hero, always a hero—true words can’t be said enough about the protagonist of this show, Red Ranger Tougo Asagaki. In a climactic battle against the forces of evil, he makes the ultimate sacrifice, giving up his life to defeat the enemy. But as we all know, true heroes don’t die—they just respawn.

Thus, the Red Ranger respawns in a world of magic and fantasy. Now called Kizuna Red, he has to find his way in this new world, doing what he does best: saving others and helping those in need. I’ve got to make it clear from the get-go—this isn’t exactly a series for everyone. It’s campy, over-the-top, and a whole lot of goofy.

Expect to see quite a lot of the same here as we follow Asagaki’s fish-out-of-water story of heroism and going against the grain in this strange new world he finds himself in. This anime may be an acquired taste, but it’s worth a shot and has got a lot of people excited about it.

9. 100 Girlfriends Season 2

Now, this was quite the surprise. No, not the fact that 100 Girlfriends is getting a continuation this soon, but the fact that the series has far exceeded all my expectations—both in terms of adaptation quality and the love it got from the community. 100 Girlfriends really felt like one of those awkward seasonal rom-coms with this out-of-this-world premise, but the anime really made it work.

We’re so lucky to have such a great team—one that looks determined to push on with adapting more of the frankly intriguing story. Pretty character designs, a whole spectrum of personalities that fans can explore and be attached to, and more than competent production values make 100 Girlfriends one of the better rom-coms in 2023.

So bring on the second season—more girlfriends to know and fall in love with, more comedic madness, and a whole lot of entertainment guaranteed.

8. Someday Will I Be the Greatest Alchemist?

Dakar isn’t a hero—he’s the furthest thing from it, actually. He has no such brave ideals nor the desire to fight. That’s why when he’s caught in the mix-up of heroes to be transported into another world, the goddess decides to throw him a bone. He gets the privilege to choose what skill he’ll get, and thus, he goes for the most boring-sounding one: Alchemy.

Wrong move, because as it turns out, being able to create things is one of the most powerful skills out there, and by picking it, he now finds himself getting involved in battles way more than he would have liked.

The concept of an adventurer having a seemingly boring creation skill that makes him overpowered is a tried-and-tested formula by this point, but it’s not every day we see that premise mixed with a series that has quite the comedic vibes as this one.

Whereas the premise has often found its home in a slew of revenge underdog stories often with a dash of edginess, this series looks to turn things upside down—giving us an adventure story that’s more heartwarming and lighthearted. We’ll see how well that works, but I’m sure excited to see how this turns out in anime form.

7. Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Season 2

This was a sequel that I didn’t anticipate. Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun’s first season was, by all means, a decent watch. It’s not a really popular series, but I’d say that it’s one of the best new anime winter 2020 had to offer. And come to think of it, that season also had a lot of interesting watches that have since fallen deep into obscurity.

That’s why I was surprised when this, of all things, got a sequel announced last year. It did come out of nowhere, but I’ve got to say, the news did please me. Hanako-kun as a series gave me some good vibes back then, and I do think it’s a niche series that deserves a little bit more love.

It’s a supernatural comedy with a unique art style that fits the nature of the show. It’s got an enjoyable set of characters who also do a lot of heavy lifting in making the anime such an engaging watch, and they more than add to the mystique each story arc provides. I hope to see more of the same in this continuation, and I’m sure the fans from back then feel the same.

6. Honey Lemon Soda

Honey Lemon Soda—a title that evokes sweet, nostalgic feelings, am I right? And that’s exactly what you’re going to get in winter’s premier school romance. The series introduces us to the shy Uka, who’s looking to have a fresh start in high school after enduring a whole lot of bullying in her younger years.

Unfortunately, though, things don’t start off on the right foot for her as she gets herself soaked by her classmate Kai. Kai is her complete opposite, however. He’s also the one to offer Uka a helping hand in getting her out of her shell. Only time will tell if this chance encounter, one triggered by honey lemon soda, will blossom into something much more.

Shy girl meets bad boy—it’s quite the old reliable in the world of romance anime. From the get-go, you can easily deduce what Honey Lemon Soda is all about, and that’s a good thing here. There’s always going to be room in the anime sphere for these kinds of shows—ones that don’t seek to break new ground but instead focus their efforts on giving audiences what they want.

In this case, it’s a fluffy, heartwarming story full of sweet moments, with the occasional love rivals adding some spice to the narrative. For fans of the genre, this one’s going to be a treat!

5. Medalist

Time is precious. You might have found yourself getting into a hobby too late to enjoy it to its fullest or to achieve what you wanted in your prime. But who knows? A missed opportunity might just end up opening another window for you. Just ask Tsukasa, who missed out on his dreams thanks to getting into figure skating a tad too late.

He had to settle for being an ice dancer—definitely not part of his dreams. However, things change when he meets a girl who’s been branded as someone too late to catch up. This encounter gives Tsukasa one hell of a look into a mirror. He makes it his goal to help Inori and coach her into becoming the medalist he always dreamed of being.

This has all the makings of an inspirational anime series. Its themes may strike a chord with some of us anime fans, making the journey of Inori and Tsukasa to the top extra engaging. A special thing about Medalist is that, judging from the source material, the author clearly knows their stuff.

It’s an amazing sports series that’s more about character growth and dynamics rather than fast-paced races to the top. That gives it a slightly different flavor—one that fans of all ages and interests can enjoy.

4. Ubel Blatt

Legends speak of an individual so powerful that all who stand in his path are torn apart once he draws the black blade. But to have the wielder of the black sword be a boy named Köinzell? That screams a mystery begging to be solved.

Adding to the intrigue are the traitorous lances—four individuals known to have been defeated by seven heroes in years past. They seem to have their sights set on Köinzell. Just what secrets does this boy hold? And what connection does he have to both the traitorous lances and the seven heroes?

Dark fantasy enthusiasts, rejoice! Ubel Blatt is here to quench your thirst for more of the genre. This is the revenge story that many fans have been clamoring for. It’s bleak, raw, and not cut from the same cloth as the dark isekai tales we’ve been bombarded with for years now. It’s an epic fantasy to look out for, especially for those who grew up enjoying classics like Berserk.

3. My Happy Marriage Season 2

My Happy Marriage came out a little over a year ago, and it’s not the Cinderella story I expected it to be. It turns out I got more than I bargained for, with it evolving into quite the political drama infused with supernatural elements. While the characterization and plot flow are staples in these kinds of romances, the execution for the first season was top-notch.

It really got a lot of people invested, making it one of the most popular anime of its season. So, a sequel wasn’t too surprising, and a year-and-a-half wait sounds just about right. Fans who enjoyed the first season are eating well this 2025! For those who haven’t watched the first season yet—what are you waiting for? This is easily one of the best heavy-drama romances 2023 had to offer.

2. Sakamoto Days

Sakamoto Days Getting Anime Treatment in 2025

The world’s strongest hitman retires from his unglamorous job and settles into an ordinary life as a family man, working at a convenience store. What could possibly go wrong? Everything, it seems, especially when you’ve made all sorts of allies and rivals in the underworld over the years. Everyone seems to want a piece of the legendary hitman himself.

But Sakamoto has sworn to start over. Now, he must find a new way to deal with the ghosts of his past without resorting to his old, violent ways. There’s been a lot of buzz regarding this adaptation of Sakamoto Days.

After all, it’s one of the most popular titles in Shonen Jump right now, and it provides a decent change of pace from the supernatural battles and immersive sports tales the magazine is known for. Sure, the over-the-top action and powers are still present, but this is a series where comedy reigns king. That focus should make for a good time no matter what kind of anime fan you are.

1. Solo Leveling Season 2

When the dust settled, Solo Leveling had quite the wild ride in terms of public perception. It’s a smash hit that got an anime adaptation, which received a polarizing reception. From what I can see, most people seemed to enjoy it, but it also had a loud detractor base ready to pounce whenever news of it falling short of expectations came out.

With a mobile game also in the works, it’s clear a lot of eggs are being placed in this series’ basket. Given the source material’s stature, it seems to be a success to the powers that be, as we’re getting a continuation sooner than expected—plus a compilation movie to boot!

Solo Leveling Season 2 is set to air this January. If you enjoyed the first season, January is definitely a date to mark on your calendars. If rumors are to be believed, this is just the beginning. There will likely be a lot more Solo Leveling coming our way. So, this is the best chance to hop in if the series even remotely interests you.
