Look Back Anime Film Wraps Theatrical Run with Special Shikishi Gift – Hey there anime fans, after several months in Japanese theatres, the Look Back anime film, based on the one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, is nearing the end of its theatrical run.
To celebrate, a special treat has been announced: Fujimoto and the film’s director, Kiyotaka Oshiyama, have teamed up to create a unique shikishi (a traditional Japanese board for autographs). The shikishi features two characters from the story, Kyomoto and Fujino, drawn by Oshiyama and Fujimoto, respectively. This serves as a final memento for fans of the film.
Film Set to Screen at the Tokyo International Film Festival
In other exciting news, Look Back is part of the animation line-up at the Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF). Alongside Look Back, films such as Naoko Yamada’s The Colors Within and Ghost Cat Anzu by Kuno and Yamashita will also be screened. The festival will take place from October 28 to November 6 in theatres across Tokyo, highlighting a range of impressive works in animation.
About the Look Back Film
Look Back is directed by Kiyotaka Oshiyama, known for his work on FLIP FLAPPERS. He not only directed the film but also wrote the script and provided character designs. The art direction was led by Kiyoshi Sameshima, while the music was composed by Haruka Nakamura. The film, which was released in Japan on June 28, 2024, is distributed by Avex Pictures.
U.S. Release Set for October 4
For fans outside Japan, the U.S. release of the Look Back anime film is coming on October 4, distributed by GKIDS. The story centres around two girls, Fujino and Kyomoto, who develop a competitive relationship through their shared love for drawing.
Fujino, popular for her comics, initially feels jealous of Kyomoto’s artistic skills, but over time, their rivalry turns into a bond as they pursue their passion for art together.
Based on the beloved manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Chainsaw Man, Look Back explores themes of creativity, rivalry, and friendship, offering an emotional journey that will inspire viewers to follow their artistic dreams.
