Wonderful Precure! The Movie Takes Second Place in Japan’s Box Office – Hey there anime fans, the new film Wonderful Precure! The Movie! Dokidoki Game no Sekai de Daibouken! premiered in 350 theatres across Japan on September 13. It made a solid debut, landing at number two on the Japanese box office chart, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.
Box Office Performance
In its opening weekend, the 33rd movie in the popular Precure series earned 367 million yen (about 2.58 million USD) from 295,000 ticket sales. This was the second-highest opening for a Precure film, just behind last year’s Precure All Stars F, which made 437 million yen (around 3.07 million USD) during its first weekend.
The film’s earnings continued strong during the first four days, including the national holiday Respect for the Aged Day on September 16. It grossed 497 million yen (3.5 million USD) from 405,000 tickets sold. This amount is about 84% of what Precure All Stars F earned in the same period.
Audience Reaction
Wonderful Precure! The Movie! also received positive reviews, ranking third in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction list with an average rating of 3.97 out of 5.0, based on 284 reviews.
Other Box Office Highlights
The latest film in the My Hero Academia series held steady in seventh place in its seventh weekend of release. The 31st movie from the Crayon Shin-chan series dropped to eighth place in its sixth weekend. The live-action film adaptation of Taro Nogizaka’s manga Natsume Arata no Kekkon fell to ninth place in its second weekend.
Kingdom: Return of The Great General slid to tenth place in its tenth weekend. It has earned a total of 7.7 billion yen (54.25 million USD) so far, making it 91st in Japan’s all-time box office rankings.
The two-part recap film is based on the Bocchi the Rock! anime series have also performed well. Bocchi the Rock! Re: Re:, the second film, has earned 540 million yen (3.8 million USD). The first film, Bocchi the Rock! Re:, made 640 million yen (4.51 million USD).
Together, the two films have grossed over 1.19 billion yen (8.38 million USD). Both films will be released together worldwide by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment in October.
