The story is set in a world where humanity lives in a region surrounded by three layers of great walls, which protect them from giant man-eating creatures known as Titans. This manga was serialized in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shonen Magazine from September 2009 to April 2021. Well, let’s go to the list.
10. Annie Leonhart
Annie Leonhart is a graduate of the 104th Training Corps and a former member of the Military Police Brigade. Her outstanding swordsmanship and unarmed martial skills earned her a 4th rank, but she was also known as a reclusive wolf who had a hard time working with others.
9. Bertolt Hoover
Bertolt Hoover was an Eldian and one of Marley’s Soldiers. He has the ability to transform into a Titan known as the Colossus Titan. In the year 845, he, Reiner Braun, and Annie Leonhart broke through Wall Maria in an attempt to lure and obtain the Founding Titan for Marley’s welfare.
After that, he joined the military and graduated from the 104th Training Corps, ranked 3rd, and then joined the Survey Corps, until his identity as the Giant Titan was revealed. He is described by others as weak-willed and quiet.
8. Reiner Braun
Reiner Braun is the Vice Captain or “Vice Commander” of the Warrior Unit and the main protagonist of Attack on Titan from Marleyan’s perspective. He was the illegitimate child of an Eldian and a Marleyan and grew up in the Liberio internment zone. Eventually, he was chosen to be one of Marley’s Soldiers. At the age of ten, he inherited the power of the Armored Titan.
7. Armin Arlert
Armin Arlert was the 15th commander of the Survey Corps, so named by Hange Zoe before her death. He is also the childhood friend of Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman, and one of the two deuteragonists of the anime.
Although he appears to be among the physically weakest of the 104th Training Corps, his intelligence and strategic genius make him an invaluable asset, especially when paired with Hange. After the battle in Shiganshina District, he took control of the Titans from Bertolt Hoover and became the owner of the Colossus Titan.
6. Jean Kirstein
Jean Kirstein is a graduate of the 104th Training Corps, among which he ranks 6th best. Jean is from the Wall Rose Trost District, and joined the military in hopes of a peaceful life as part of the Military Police Brigade, but later joined the Survey Corps. Currently, he serves as a commander in the Survey Corps, leading troops during the Raid in Liberio.
5. Mikasa Ackerman
After her parents were killed by human traffickers, Mikasa was rescued by Eren Yeager and lived with his parents, Grisha and Carla, before the fall of Wall Maria. She is the last descendant of the Shogunate clan living on Paradis Island, is thus related to, and holds significant political power in Hizuru.
Even though she just wants to live a peaceful life, Mikasa joins the military—where she is considered the best soldier among the 104th Training Corps. She then enlists in the Survey Corps to follow and protect Eren, becoming one of his greatest assets. She is currently serving as an officer in the Corps.
4. Eren Jaeger
Eren Jaeger is a former member of the Survey Corps. He is the main protagonist of Shingeki no Kyojin. He lived in Shiganshina District with his parents and mikasa until the fall of Wall Maria, where he witnessed his mother being eaten by a Titan. This event will cause Eren to hate the Titans until he vows to wipe them all off the face of the earth.
3. Hange Zoe
Hange Zoe was the 14th commander of the Survey Corps, named after Erwin Smith before his death. Hange was previously the squad leader in charge of the Fourth Squad, which is tasked with creating and conducting innovative research on Titans, including Eren Yeager.
After being promoted to commander, Hange was also in charge of expedition planning, regiment management, recruiting, and all other responsibilities previously handled by Erwin. After her death, she was succeeded by Armin Arlert.
2. Erwin Smith
Erwin Smith is the thirteenth commander of the Survey Corps. Clever, intelligent and widely respected, Erwin was a capable commander. Although he cares deeply for his men, he does not hesitate to sacrifice them for the good and prosperity of mankind, and his men prove more than willing to risk their lives at his behest.
During Erwin’s career he developed the Long Range Enemy Scout Formation, and due to uncertainty about his future, he appointed Hange Zoe as his successor.

Levi Ackerman, often formally referred to as Captain Levi, is the squad captain or “Army Leader” of the Special Operations Forces in the Survey Corps and is widely recognized as the strongest soldier of mankind.
