Obito vs Itachi – Who Would Win? – We are looking at who is stronger between Mangekyo Sharingan Obito and Itachi. As well as who will come out on top if they are to battle it out. So, let’s get started.
1. Ninjutsu
Obito due to possessing Hashirama’s DNA was able to use wood release. He was also proficient in fuinjutsu, capable of sealing the 10 tails, barrier Ninjutsu and as with all Uchiha, he could use fire release at a very high level. Itachi could use the summoning technique, shadow clones and was also well versed in fuinjutsu. He was very skilled in fire and water release, performing water release techniques without an external source. The mangekyo also gave him access to Amaterasu the highest level of fire release.
2. Genjutsu
Both Obito and Itachi are well versed in Genjutsu. Obito possess a powerful genjutsu that allows him to control tailed beasts and it was such that he could control a perfect jinchuriki. Itachi is able to cast different levels of genjutsu with the most powerful one being Tsukuyomi, granted by the Mangekyo Sharingan and even the most powerful of characters can be vulnerable to it.
3. Taijutsu
Both these Shinobi are quite skilled in Taijutsu and the Sharingan which allows the user to predict movements, plays a big part in their taijutsu. Obito’s Taijutsu was enough to match a naturally skilled Taijutsu user like Kakashi in an intense hand to hand duel in the war. Itachi doesn’t lag behind though, his Taijutsu was enough to keep up with Naruto’s Kyuubi Chakra Mode in a short scuffle and he was under the control of Kabuto. A pure taijutsu fight between these two will by no means be one-sided.
4. Speed
Obito is naturally very fast and his reflexes are enough to activate Kamui in time to evade enemy attacks. His reflexes were enough to keep up with the likes of KCM Naruto and 7th Gate Guy (the fastest characters in the series of all time). Itachi’s speed is also immense, enough to not get blitz by KCM Naruto and fast enough to keep up in a fast-paced battle against Naruto and Bee. His hand movements were so fast it appeared as though, he performed his techniques without hand seals.
5. Strength
The fighting style of these 2 shinobi does not revolve around physical strength, but they’re quite physical in their own right. Obito’s physical strength was great enough to lift Konan by her throat with one hand while gravely injured and he was able to block an attack from Zabuza’s blade with one arm like nothing. Itachi also had notable physical strength, able to block an attack from a Samehada-wielding Kisame with nothing but a kunai.
6. Intelligence
Two of the most intelligent characters in the series. Obito’s intelligence mainly comes from the immense knowledge he’s acquired through his life and thus has a lot of intel about the shinobi world and the things in it. He’s also quite manipulative, capable of controlling Nagato to do his bidding. Itachi is more naturally intelligent and has always being from a young age. Quickly rising through the Ninja ranks. He is also quite knowledgeable about the shinobi world such that even Obito was weary of him. In battle he’s also one of the best strategists and outsmarting him in battle is an almost impossible task.
7. Defense
Obito possesses a defense that makes him basically untouchable “Kamui”. It isn’t a physical defense but it’s very effective and with it he can make himself intangible thus allowing attacks to pass through him. The only way to touch him is by first figuring out how the ability works, which is not an easy task. Itachi has a physical defense in Susanoo which is impervious to attacks unless of course the attack is too powerful. His defense is further enhanced by the Yata Mirror, capable of deflecting any attack be it physical or spiritual.
8. Summoning
Itachi could summon crows, which aren’t necessarily powerful or anything but they are very useful in battle and he uses them perfectly. He would typically call them forth in flocks to swarm opponents and distract or trick them. He even integrated crows into clones of himself that would draw opponents attacks. Obito Pre Rinnegan didn’t really possess any summoning technique and the summon which used in his younger years “Kurama” was no longer his.
9. Chakra
Obito’s chakra reserves were enhanced by the White Zetsu matter equipped to his body giving him huge chakra reserves and enabling him to perform several chakra-taxing techniques without noticable exhaustion and use Kamui as much as he wanted. Itachi on the other hand has low chakra reserves made worse by his illness which prented him from taking part in prolonged battles and had limited use of his techniques (only 3 times a day) before he needed significant rest, at which point even his Sharingan deactivated.
We can see that both are pretty much equal expect in the Staima and Chakra department where Itachi is outmatched by Obito, due to his sickness and Obito having Hashirama’s cells. Now, for the sake of the battle, we will see how Itachi fairs against Mangekyo Sharingan Obito (when sick, when healthy and so Edo).
Mangekyo Sharingan Obito vs Sick Itachi
Sick Itachi is the one we are accustomed to since it is the version of him shown in the series. Considering, he can’t keep Susanoo for long, can only use his techniques a few times, he doesn’t stand much of a chance against Obito who will simply use Kamui to outlast. Let’s say he catches Obito off guard and hits him with Amaterasu, Obito can just Izanagi back to life and Itachi will quickly lose his stamina. Also it should take some time for Itachi to figure out Kamui and he doesn’t have enough of it while sick. 10 out of 10 for Obito here.
Mangekyo Sharingan Obito vs Healthy Itachi
Let’s say Itachi was healthy, how will he fare? Let’s note that even if Itachi is healthy, his chakra reserves and stamina still will not increase too much but of course he will now be able to last longer and use his techniques a few more times. Here, Itachi may have the time required to figure out Kamui and considering he’s very intelligent, he sure will. He will then become aware that Obito needs to be tangible to attack and take advantage of it. He could use the totsuka blade which is a possibility since he could do this the moment Obito becomes tangible. Still, Obito can still chose to stay on the defensive if he wants and will still be able to outlast. He can also find an opening to warp Itachi into Kamui dimension. I will give this 7 out of 10 to Obito.
Mangekyo Sharingan Obito vs Edo Itachi
This Itachi is on a completely different level to even healthy Itachi if you ask me, since the only way is to seal him as he can go on fighting. He will have enough time to figure out Kamui perfectly and with his intelligence can devise a perfect counter. He can keep Susanoo up constantly and if Obito attempts to warp him, he will have to warp the entire Susanoo which if possible will take some time and Itachi will take advantage of that moment. I give this one to Itachi 7 out of 10.
Final Verdict
So, Mangekyo Sharingan Obito in my opinion is above any version of Alive Itachi, although Itachi can possibly steal a few wins if he is healthy. Edo Itachi has no stamina, chakra or whatever drawbacks, and while Kamui makes Obito untouchable, he becomes touchable when he is figured out. Minato did this and Itachi is also as intelligent and he has all the time. So Edo Itachi is my opinion is superior to Mangekyo Sharingan Obito.
